Christmas Stitching

I stayed home from work Friday because I caught a cold (thanks hubby).  The good news is, I was able to get a lot of stitching done.  The bad news is, I couldn't do a video because of all the sniffing and sneezing, so this blog post will have to do.

I finished all of the Lizzie Kate ornaments from the Tiny Tidings XXII leaflet. I had so much fun stitching these.  I used 28 ct. Monaco that I tea and coffee dyed and the called for threads (except I used DMC B5200 instead of Weeks Whitewash).

I mounted these on sticky board and then sprayed the back with Aleene's Tacky Spray and then put the little ribbon on the back and then the wool felt.  I cut the wool felt along the edges with pinking shears.  They were so easy!

I stitched and finished the 1989 Prairie Schooler santa from the Santas Revisted II leaflet.  I also used 28 ct. tea and coffee dyed Monaco using DMC thread (2 over 2). I was going to make this into an ornment, but it turned out so big.  I ended up mounting it on mat board and then mounting another piece of mat board with fabric and sticking them together with the tacky spray. I clipped it to this frame I got at Hobby Lobby.

My Lizzie Kate Christmas ABC's are less than halfway done and I think I'm going to put it away until next year.  I also restarted Lizzie Kate's 4 Seasons.  I was originally going to do them all on one piece of fabric and changed my mind after seeing Priscilla's finished individually.  She has them displayed on a stand that can be found at Hobby Lobby or Michaels and I'd like to see if I can find one like it. I think they look so cute!

Lastly, I have been working on my Smith Sampler by The Scarlett House.  I'm determined to get it finished soon!  I just need to get the top section and border finished.  I'm getting there!

40 ct. Vintage Meadow Rue, silk threads (1 over 2)

With Bradley starting college next fall, I'm going to really try to stitch from my stash in 2018.  I have a lot of samplers in my stash kitted and ready to go, so we'll see if I can do it! Hope you all have a great Christmas and Happy New Year.  We'll be headed down to Florida at the end the week, so I'll will be back with a video in the new year!

  1. Nicole, your finishes are fabulous. I love how you finished the LK ornaments. Your corners are so crisp. Did you miter them? I also love your PS Santa. The Smith Sampler is gorgeous and it doesn't like you have much more to do on it. Thanks for sharing! I hope you are feeling better soon.

    1. Thank you Robin. No, I didn't miter them. I just folded the top and bottom down and then folded the sides down over them.

    1. Thanks Justine! I just folded the top and bottom down and then folded the sides over them. I think the tacky spray helped me get them tight.

  7. The Smith Sampler is gorgeous!!! Love the LK little stitches and I never thought pinking shears would work so well on wool...good to remember. They were a nice no-sew finish! Great display with the PS santa. Have a Merry Christmas! Mary@stitchingfriendsforever

  8. Beautiful finishes, and great progress on Smith. Every year I say just work on that stash and for a month or so it works ...then i see something I just got to have. I figure buying a pattern isn't really that bad. I have missed some patterns and had to spend a lot more $$ years later when they go OOP. Get better and enjoy the Holidays.

  12. Nicole, I have really enjoyed watching your floss tube videos this year. If I could only stitch half as fast as you do. It's more tedious for me but nevertheless I do enjoy it. Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful finishes. I also love seeing your kitties:) Merry Christmas!

  15. Beautiful finishings Nicole. Love the LK ones, they are delightful. Have a great time in Florida, do you ever see Alligators, makes me shudder at the thought. Don't have thse in N.Z. thank goodness. Happy New Year and good luck with your stash busting. I always say I am going to use what I have and before you know it see something that I would really like and that's the end of it. Anyway best wishes for 2018 and look forward to seeing a video in the New Year. Did you manage to send your cold or bad sinuses to Arizona as the saying goes:)

    1. Thank you Shirley! Yes, we have alligators that hang out in ponds in our neighborhood. They don't bother people as long as you don't bother them. Happy New year to you too!
