The Gadget Saga Continues....

Many were confused as to why I would buy a Kindle when I had an iPad and what did I do with my nook? Well, I sold the nook when I got my iPad because I was reading on it more than the nook. And then I realized I may have sold my nook too soon. The backlighting on the iPad started to bother my eyes and it was heavy - I wasn't exactly able to curl up in bed with it. So I decided to try out the new Kindle. I really wanted to like it, but the new screen with the greater contrast had almost too much contrast. it was making my eyes go buggy. :) I realized I really missed the Kindle 2 I gave to my mom. While looking on eBay one day I saw one for only $100 and that included the leather case and shipping and it was only 3 months old. So I got it and returned the Kindle 3. I'm so happy I did - not only did I save $100 ($40 on the Kindle and $60 on the case), but I can read with no problems in it. Now I know many people are very happy with their Kindle 3's, so I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, it just wasn't for me. Anyway, here are some pictures of my new (old) Kindle. :)

So hopefully this is the end of the gadget saga and I can get back to reading and stitching. I have really been reading a lot lately - it's almost as if I've rediscovered an old friend. I'm loving it! And speaking of stitching - I have gotten a little bit more stitched on Shores...

P.S. I'm still loving my iPad for everything, but reading. It really is awesome and my Kindle makes a great companion to it.

  1. I wanted an Ipad but was also afraid the backlight would bother my eyes. I bought a Kindle2 back in June and I love it. It really has gotten me back into reading again.

  2. You are as bad as we are with the gadgets! We've got a Kindle, two nooks and an iPad floating around the house! I do like the orginal Kindle the best.

  3. Now that's interesting about the Kindle. Hmmmm. Well, me with my old eyes, I like the ipad and the way it's backlit. Makes it easier for my eyes to read and not have to use ridiculous amounts of light. I do miss the lightness of the Kindle, but I can deal with it. Love your Shores progress!

  4. we're a bit behind in our country: the Ipad slowly comes in our stores, but the Kindle is nowhere to be found yet (I think, I never hear/read about it).
    enjoy your new/old gadget.

love your progress on the shores.

  5. I love reading with my iPad in bed since I can read it without turning on a light. But you have to turn down the brightness when you are reading in the dark. I can't do much about the heaviness, but it doesn't bother me since I am used to reading 1000 page hardcovers and the iPad is lighter than THAT.

  6. I'm glad you've got your gadgets all figured out now and are happy with them. That's a lot of money to spend to not be thrilled!

  7. I bought DH a K3 for his birthday, but I still prefer my K2. My daughter has my original K1, so we've got all three generations in our house!

Someday I'll have an iPad, but probably won't do much reading on it.

  10. I was wondering how you'd feel about 3 vs. 2--I own the original and am pretty happy with it--though your case is beautiful! :D

Good going on Shores; that's a huge block!

  11. Oh you gadget (& lucky) girl! Thanks for the review of the Kindle 2 vs 3. I don't have one but it's always interesting to hear reviews. I hope Santa will bring me one this year!

Your progress on Shores looks lovely!

  12. Isn't it great to be reading a lot? I'm the same, and so thankful for it. It's like I rediscovered a part of myself that I'd lost. Thanks for the reviews of the various gadgets. I still think I'm hip and cool because I have an iPhone, and that is the old kind! LOL I am waffling about a Kindle, just because I hate putting stuff on the credit card if I can avoid it, plus I have to pay an out-of-Ireland service charge on every charge made not in the country. It's nominal, but it's just one of the things in the 'con' column. The big plus would be the ease of getting books as opposed to how hard it is to get them here. Anyhoo! Your Shores looks GREAT!!

  13. Totally agree with you on the Kindle, Nicole! Love my K2 and I also have the K1 model. Both are great. Jess was the happy recipient of my Nook on our recent visit to Louisiana! :]
I'm so proud of you on your exercise and everything!!

  14. I love my ipad. I don't do a lot of reading, especially in bed, so never considered getting a Nook or a Kindle - I have both of the apps on my iPad, so when I want to read, I have 3 options.

I'm glad that you're happy with your "new" Kindle.
