Huge Mistake!!

As I was stitching Frances Eden last night, I noticed that it looked like I was running out of fabric. Sure enough, I had started on the wrong side of the fabric! I was so mad at myself! I ended up just cutting the stitched part off because there was no way I was going to be able to rip it all out. Here's where I left off...

Frances Eden Oops!

I thought it was pretty funny that the only words I stitched were "thy work is done." I thought, "Yep, it's done alright!"

I might make what I stitched into something - not sure why yet. I may have cut it too close to do anything with (should have thought about that before cutting). Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it right now. I may start Susan Rambo to make up for it or get back to Ann Grant. I'm still deciding. I definitely don't want to restart Frances right now!!

  1. Oh, no! Sorry that happened but maybe you could stitch some fabric borders onto that piece to use in a pillow or small wall hanging...your stitching is just too pretty to let is go unused!

  2. Oh my goodness Nicole, I can't believe that this happened. And all that stitching. I guess it was just best to cut your loses - definitely your work is done!!! I'm sure that you can use what you've stitched for something. It looks too good to just throw it away. AUGHHHH!! I feel your pain.

  3. I feel your pain! I have done that too. Unfortunately, it was as I was finishing up the pattern. I ended up completing it and then framing it so that you couldn't tell I was at the end of the fabric. It's ok, but not my best effort...

  4. Oh goodness, that is a huge bummer. I hope you can make use of what you did stitch, because it is lovely!

  5. Such a bummer, Nicole. I think we've all been through something similar. Definitely use what you stitched for something. It's so pretty it's a shame to waste it.

  6. I agree with Deb, make into something and Oh I know that had to be heart dropping and to have those words there....I won't laugh but it was very strange.....Thy work is done. LOL

    Ok, I did. Sorry.
I would be crying at this point. I definitely would make it into something though.

  7. Oh no!! It was looking so pretty too.
I have did the same thing too, in my case I was in too big of a hurry to get it started, lol
It looks like you can probably do something with it, don't let it go to waste that's for sure

  8. ACK! Eh...just put it in your finished box with all your other fabulous finishes! You deserve to start something new!

  9. So sorry - Maybe you could make it into a table runner - add some fabric to the border :)

  10. That's the sort of thing that keeps us stitchers very humble..and leaves me saying "Oh fudgesicle" (or words to that effect!)

  11. No Nicole, I as so pained to hear of this. My heart just aches for you. I agree with you, it is best to set it aside and refocus.
Your stitching is beautiful. I know you will reconcile the piece in your mind at a later date. I am glad at least you can see a little humor in the situation with respect to the words.
This has also happened to me on one piece I stitched but like others I was almost finished and could make it work. It taught me a valuable lesson, that if a piece is so close in sizing I just get a square piece of linen the largest measurement to have some fudge room.

  12. How heartbreaking! We've all done something similar. You'll figure out something, I like the idea of a pillow or a table runner, or even a wall hanging. I've decided everything doesn't have to framed, so maybe that's why those ideas speak to me. I'm sure you figure out something wonderful to make with it since it is so lovely.

  13. Oh, I'm so sorry. But you know, I did that exact same thing on Frances Eden. I start in the top left, so I had that bit left. I never restarted it--too discouraging.

  14. :-((

I know you'll be able to find a great way to use this piece. It would be an absolute travesty to go to waste.

    Hugs!

  15. Very sad situation! Sorry for the time spent and materials. But do not be upset! To start a new sampler - great idea! This will cheer up!

  16. ...or the front of a bag, top of a box...So sorry!

  17. Gahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sorry. Been there, done that, and it's always a huge, huge BUMMER. :(
I can sometimes save them by sewing a piece of scrap fabric onto the short end and framing/finishing like usual. Depending on how close your stitchery is to that seam, it works like a charm.

  18. What a bummer. I w2ould put it away and probably never look at it again. Hopefully, you have enough to use it in some way.

  19. You could finish it off like BBD did the mystery sampler with different fabrics. Then it looks like it was meant to be. I have seen several samplers that use two different colored fabrics. Just a thought.

What a frustration. It is beautiful though.

  20. You've handled this "huge mistake" with much aplomb. Has the wailing and gnashing of teeth happened off-stage?

  21. All I can say is, if it hasnt happened to you yet, it probably will!! Been there, done that...sadly, it hurts when this happens....BUT, you caught yourself before one more stitch was put in!!! I will make into a pillow or pinkeep or something for you...... Take care! Faye

  22. Hate it when that happens...but, I bet you can salvage it and turn it into something very special and unique...not to mention beautiful! Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you come up with>

  23. Oh my! So sorry that this happened! There have been some great suggestions as to what you can do with it after you have stepped back for a bit!

  24. Dang... Stitch some borders on and make a pin cushion or pillow. All is certainly not lost!! Hugs

  25. Sorry Nicole. That has happened to me also. You are not alone.

  26. Oh bummer! The progress you had made was so beautiful too! I hope you can salvage some of the stitching and turn it into something you can keep.

  27. Oh, NO! What a bummer! I hope you find some way to use what you've stitched already - it's way to pretty to toss. Maybe sew some coordinating fabric around the house and use it on a box top? Anyway, good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh no....that's terrible! I can't believe you will have to restart Frances. I hope you can find a use for what you've already made.

  29. Oh no! It's too pretty to discard. Use some pretty fabric strips and turn into a little pillow or a hanging.

  30. Ouch! What a bummer.

Hope you figure out something to do with the cut off bit, because it's too pretty to just be tossed out.

  31. I don't know how I would feel if that happened to me...pretty gutted I reakon. I have had situations like that, but not after having stitched so much. You may be able to use the stitched part for a pillow or something else.

  32. Awwww, bummer! I can see how that would put you off this design for a while. I'm sure you'll find a good use for the stitched piece, it's really pretty even by itself.

  33. Oh my goodness what a nightmare! Every stitcher knows that that troubling mistake looms in her stitching history somewhere! So sorry. I love that it says the work is done. Perhaps you can make it into a book cover or something like that. It's a lovely piece for sure!

  34. I know the feeling that has happened to me twice in the past few months!! Could you maybe make a pillow top? border it with fabric so it would be large enough?

    Happy Stitching!

  36. You are one brave chick to just chop that thing off the way you did, lol! THe old saying goes, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade...hang onto it, I know the inspiration to make something pretty out of it will come in time.

  37. How disappointing! I'm so sorry. I know you'll get back to restarting Frances eventually, but it's so discouraging when something like this happens. Love your idea for reusing the piece for something else!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hate that happened! Not fun at all but I bet you will come up with a great idea to finish what you have stitched. They say, some of the greatest things have come from mistakes and errors!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh No I am so sorry this happened to you Nicole! It would be so easy to do that and wow you had stitched so much already! I don't blame you for wanting to move on to something else right now. It is something that happens and I sure wouldn't want to frog it all out either. Maybe you can get back and restart when you feel like you want to. I too feel your pain!!

  40. I could almost cry reading this! That's happened to me before and I DID cry! It's so infuriating, I'm so sorry that happened. Your piece was beautiful, and you should definately keep it and make it into something...anything! The fact that the only words you stitched were "thy work is done" is quite funny (despite the horror of the situation) and should be displayed! In a few years, you might laugh at this :-)

  41. Oh NO! What a shame. good idea to just move on for now. It will make a nice pillow or smaller piece. Orrrr, you could have a give away and give it away so you don't have to look at it.
