CaHRH Block Eight Finished!

I was determined to get this block finished yesterday.  I was so determined I stitched until I poked a hole in my finger.  I hate it when that happens!  And it's not the normal poke in my finger from the point of the needle.  That finger has callused so much that it's no big deal when that happens.  It's when the back of the needle pokes into the side of my finger, which is not callused.  I have a bandaid on it now, but it still hurts when I stitch.  Maybe it's a sign that I just need to spend today cleaning instead of stitching! :)  Especially since my in-laws may be dropping by sometime this weekend on their way back from New York.

Anyway, here is my pic of a completed Block Eight...

And here is the whole thing...

I did make a few changes - I made the eyes and backstitch on the face dark brown and I made the lady's hair a little darker.  Other than that it's all as charted.  Well, I guess I'd better get cleaning!  Write soon! :)

  1. This is looking so good, Nicole! I'm wondering what the fabric count is and if you're doing it 1 over 2; guess I'll look back through old posts to find out.

Man, that stinks that you injured yourself, though! Are you having a big push to finish the whole thing before Christmas?

  2. Beautiful as awlways Nicole. I really like block 10 with the birds. I really like how the pine needles look so realeastic.

You could always forgo the cleaning claiming hobby related injury and watch Christmas movies all day ;) Probably wouldnt work but, worth a thought.

You know you are a stitcher when your fingers show the damage, somewhat like a chefs hands are all banged up. I have yet to reach that elite status yet...One Day

  3. Very nice, I may have to start that one soon, so many projects, so little time! And in know what you mean about sticking yourself with the eye of the needle, I use straw needles for my cross stitch and they are just as sharp on the eye end as the business end!

  5. Woot Woot!!! Congrats on finishing block #8 Nicole. Your sampler looks fabulous.

I'm sorry to hear about your sore finger... you may have to ease back a bit on the stitching. Try New Skin... the paint on liquid product. When my fingers get sore when I stitch on the quilt bindings I use New Skin and it works!

  8. It looks beautiful. I still can't imagine stitching such a large piece but I really love this one. If I was going to do a large piece, this would be the one. Thank you for sharing your progress =)

  10. That is looking so good! I do hope that your finger gets better soon! But why do housework, that could make it worse! LOL

  12. It looks incredible, Nicole! You're making short work of it. :)

Sorry about the hole in your finger! I hate when that happens. I find sometimes that if the needle does then go back into the hole, it's like an electric jolt & I want to jump through the roof. Do try some of that liquid bandaid stuff. It works wonders!

    Enjoy (?!) the in-law visit!!

  13. I'm enjoying watching your progress. It looks great.

I know some people have said they don't like the carolers very much but I personally like that block alot. It's one of the ones I am looking forward to when I finally start this myself in January.

  17. Sorry about the finger. It's not the same trying to push the needle through with another finger, just doesn't feel right does it? You're fairly scooting along with this piece though. It's looking great.

  18. It's looking wonderful! You are moving along nicely. So sorry to hear about your finger! Have you ever used those things called "Thimble it"? It's like a hard little sticker that you can stick on the tip of your finger. I use them a lot for binding quilts. It helps to avoid the nasty hole that develops in the finger. There is nothing worse! You can get them at Joann's in the quilt section.

  19. Oh, I hate getting stabbed (over and over) with the eye end of the needle. When that starts happening (it tends to happen more in the winter when my hands are dry), I stick a little piece of medical tape (you know--the stuff that holds a big bandage on) cut to size, right over the hole. It's dense enough so the needle doesn't go through it, but it's not as bulky as a bandaid.

    Your project is just beautiful.
